Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to U.S. military attacks on targets in Syria

[Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to U.S. military targets in Syria: opposes the use of chemical weapons] Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying answered a reporter’s question on U.S. military targets in Syria.

Q: Is there any further comment on the US military strike against targets in Syria due to the chemical weapons attack in Syria?

A: Yesterday, I expressed China’s position at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I would like to emphasize once again that China has always opposed the use of force in international relations and advocates peaceful settlement of disputes through political and diplomatic means such as interlocution and negotiation. I would like to reiterate that we oppose the use of chemical weapons by any country, organization or individual under any circumstances and for any purpose. We support relevant UN agencies to conduct independent and comprehensive investigations into all incidents of the use or suspected use of chemical weapons, and draw conclusions that can stand the test of history and facts on the basis of conclusive evidence. The top priority now is to prevent the situation from deteriorating further and maintain the hard-won process of political settlement of the Syrian issue.
